Interdisciplinary Arts

I’ll lead with the finished product, Jay Electronica – Better in Tune with the Infinite, and reverse engineer the journey. A few years back I finally got around to watching the movie Babel, if you haven’t yet seen it – please do. It’s one of the most beautiful films I’ve seen in the last 5 years for many reasons, but thats not why I’m writing this. I’m writing this because me watching this movie, lead me to now one of my favorite Hip-Hop artists – Jay Electronica. The end scene which you can view here is scored by a piano played by Ryuichi Sakamoto. The next day I listened to this score on repeat, enough to compel me to recommend it to roommate. When he heard the song he said it reminded him of a Hip-Hop track “Better in Tune with the Infinite” which we then listened to and I immediately fell in love with. Long story short, I’m fascinated how there are so many parallels across various mediums and how one place can lead you to a whole new world in a way that feels like you were meant to arrive at this new place. Blows my mind. Jay Electronica is now one of my favorite artist’s and I can’t wait to see him perform live with my roommate on Febuary 6th in Philadelphia!
